Alan Griffiths and Jim Blackhurst

 Below is a photo of our 1950s tandem record breakers, Alan Griffiths and Jim Blackhurst. Their 1956 Road Records Association Liverpool to London time of 8 hours 4min 45secs still stands. In 1955 they had established a new record of 3 hours 33min 49secs for 100miles, having already, in 1954 set up a new "best time" of 1.35.48 at 50 miles. The 50 and 100 records stood for 24 years until beaten by Peter Crofts and Dave Membrey of Southborough CC. Interestingly, Peter now lives in Shrewbury, still rides tandem with his wife, Anita, and has conducted over 100 CTC tours to all sorts of distant places.  Alan and Jim now concentrate on their golf!
