Mid Shropshire Wheelers Prize Presentation Report

Mid Shropshire Wheelers held their prize presentation on Saturday at the Radbrook Community Centre.

The event was a sell out and the attendance included twenty of the fifty one youngsters who attended club training sessions at the Sundorne circuit during 2007. Commemorative medals were awarded to mark this first year of competitive youth cycling in Shrewsbury.

Riders of all ages have represented the club in a wide range of disciplines during the year.  Dennis Milsom (79) retained his Veteran Time Trials Association National Titles at 10 and 25 miles.

Luke Grivell-Mellor has enjoyed an outstanding winter season in the Midland Cyclo-Cross Series and on Sunday his second place in round 12 at Lichfield, ensured his position as overall point's winner in the Youth section of a hard fought competition.

On the local scene Luke won the schoolboy Hill Climb shield, for the third year running, the Youth Cyclo-cross trophy and the Junior Clubman cup.

Further major club awards were made to: -

James Emery – Senior Hill climb, Evening “10” Points Shield and Fastest ride in Evening “10” series.

Andrew Tamplin – Fastest club rider and first on handicap in Interclub “30” mile event.

Anthony Hough – 50 miles and 100 mile trophies and Middle Distance Best All-rounder (BAR) trophy

Paul Nicholas – Road race trophy.

Martyn Stephens – Senior Cyclo-Cross trophy.

Jordan Buckley – Junior Cyclo-Cross trophy

Alex Webb- Most improved rider Evening “10” Mile TT series.

Jenny York - Encourager Plate

Matt Hart & Howard Williams – winners of Pete Francis 2-up event trophy

Club Triathlon riders also recorded some excellent results during the season and awards were made to Dave Mawhinney – Boyd Plate for an excellent ride in the UK Ironman Triathlon at Sherborne, Dorset

Ian Coupland –Shrewsbury Chronicle Merit Trophy

Club President Terry Egglestone received the Clubman of the Year Trophy for a tremendous amount of behind the scenes work at the Sundorne track and also at the Evening “10” series. Ironically this award was introduced in the same year that he joined the club – 1958.

Andy Bason was the main guest of the evening and received the Arthur Bishop Memorial Trophy as the winner of the MSW Open “25” Mile Time Trial held last Easter.

Club Standard Medals were awarded to the following riders: -

Paul Charlesworth – bronze at 10 miles

Dave York – bronze at 25 miles

Neil Coles – silver at 25 miles

Anthony Hough – Silver at 25 & 50 miles

Andrew Tamplin – bronze at 25 miles, silver at 10 & 30 miles

Jenny York – bronze at 25 miles, gold at 10 miles

Mid Shropshire Wheelers looks forward to an 83 rd year of support for local cycling competitors of all ages.
